Taylor Wessing’s Sustainability Report, Behind the Green Façade has led to the firm’s research consultancy, Spada, taking home two trophies, including the prestigious ‘Victor Ludorum’ prize, at The Property Marketing Awards 2009 – attended by 400 people on Tuesday 21st April at the Marriott Grosvenor Hotel in London.

The industry’s premier Awards are organised by Estates Gazette in partnership with The Chartered Surveyors’ Company, and recognise innovation, creativity and the success of marketing campaigns in the commercial property industry.

The research, into the development industry’s views and attitudes towards environmental policy issues and legislation, took six months of collaboration between Spada and Taylor Wessing and is believed to comprise the most extensive research of its kind yet undertaken, involving detailed responses from 800 individuals as well as 550 companies, organisations and universities drawn from an initial target list of almost 6000.

Behind the Green Façade prevailed in the Research category, pipping runners-up CBRE, and went on to win the acclaimed ‘best of the best’ Victor Ludorum award for its outstanding contribution to property marketing.

Estates Gazette is one of the UK’s leading property publications, and the judging panel comprised experts in both property and marketing who praised Behind the Green Façade for placing Taylor Wessing at the forefront of the sustainability agenda.

Helen Garthwaite, Head of Construction at Taylor Wessing’s London office, said:

“This award reflects Taylor Wessing’s cutting edge legal work in the sustainability sphere. We are particularly pleased to have been recognised for making an essential contribution to public knowledge in an under-researched area that is crucial both for future emissions reduction and economic success.”

Gavin Ingham Brooke, Managing Director of Spada, added:

“These awards are an extremely important acknowledgement.  As a client, Helen Garthwaite’s vision and determination to aim high has allowed us to deliver to the top of our capability.  Many important figures from within the wider development, funds and occupier industries, including Taylor Wessing clients, have contributed their time and insight to make the research the groundbreaking piece of work that it is.”

The judges, chaired by Liz Peace, Chief Executive, British Property Federation, commented:

“This was a high quality document presenting excellent statistical data.  The report received considerable media coverage including 10,000 unique hits on the website and firmly positions Taylor Wessing, a law firm, as a leader in the field of sustainability.

“Surprisingly green matters did not figure in a huge number of the entries.  Spada managed, however, to use the green agenda to spectacularly good effect and in doing so propelled their clients, Taylor Wessing, into the limelight as a key player in this important and well populated area.  As a piece of research based marketing this was superb and a clear winner of the Victor Ludorum.”
