So many professional bodies we know have a strong public interest ethic. For some, the public, press and policy makers know and accept that – others struggle to incorporate that public interest into their profile. Work that Spada’s consultants have done with bodies with a professional membership has focused on aligning the membership organisation’s values with their image. Without that alignment, the bodies representing our professions lack the moral authority to influence public policy and public opinion. Those that represent mainstream branches of medicine tend to have their ethics recognised – other professionals can struggle to achieve that reputation.
